Northern Ireland snow: PSNI warns against all unnecessary travel due to hazardous conditions

A warning has been issued as drivers have been told to avoid all unnecessary travel in Northern Ireland due to snow and freezing temperatures.

The PSNI said driving conditions were hazardous on Tuesday evening, January 4, and said drivers should avoid all unnecessary travel.

Anyone who must drive is asked to reduce their speed and drive to suit conditions.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Driving conditions are hazardous on many routes this evening due to snow and freezing temperatures. Please avoid all unnecessary travel if possible. If you must venture out, please reduce your speed and drive to suit the conditions."

According to the Met Office, the weather for Tuesday night, January 4, is set to see wintry showers continuing but becoming more isolated through the night.

However, as winds ease, a frost will develop under the clear spells inland with a minimum temperature of 1C.

Wednesday, January 5, will get off to a cold start, but it will be mainly bright for all areas across Northern Ireland with a lot of bright or sunny spells.

An early frost can be expected into the evening, but clouding over later. Maximum temperature 5C.

Wet and windy conditions will roll in on Thursday, January 6, before wintry showers return on Friday, January 7.

The Met Office have a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in place on Friday across western areas of Northern Ireland, so make sure to wrap up warm if you're planning to head out.
