Northern Ireland set for very wet and windy day as weather warnings kick in

Following a couple of sunny days, the wind and rain have returned to Northern Ireland with gusto.

Met Office forecasters have predicted a "very wet and very windy" day.

It has issued yellow weather warnings for both, with parts of the region set to be battered by gusts of up 70mph on Tuesday afternoon.

They said it will be "an overcast day with periods of rain, often heavy, particularly across southern regions. Southerly winds reaching gale force, perhaps severe gale, particularly across eastern coasts. Maximum temperature 14 °C".

Tonight, the rain is predicted to continue.

"Rain, heavy at times during the evening, particularly in east. Outbreaks turning patchy overnight and clearing the west towards dawn, bringing the chance of brighter spells to far west," they added.

Today's minimum temperature will be around 8 °C, with a maximum of about 14°.

The sun will rise at 7.28am and set again at 5.47pm.

As for the rest of the week, things appear to be looking up.

Wednesday:

Starting cloudy in east with some patchy rain. Mainly dry and bright conditions in west spreading to all from mid-day. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Generally settled with high pressure extending from south, bringing a lot of dry, occasionally bright weather, westerly winds and seasonally mild temperatures.
