Northern Ireland restrictions: Nightclubs 'to close at 6am on Boxing Day'

Stormont ministers have agreed to new restrictions for Northern Ireland as coronavirus cases increase daily.

Those restrictions include the closure of nightclubs from December 26.

PA Media reports that nightclubs will close from 6am on Boxing Day.

A meeting with Executive ministers is headed towards it fourth hour, starting today at around 12.30pm.

Other measures likely to be agreed are table service and limits on table numbers in hospitality settings.

Earlier this afternoon, Northern Ireland recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Three further patients who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 have died in Northern Ireland, according to figures.

Another 3,231 cases of the virus were also notified by the department of health on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, there were 261 Covid-positive patients in hospital, of whom 34 were in intensive care.
