Northern Ireland nightclub rules as changes come into place from January 26

The Northern Ireland Executive agreed changes to a number of coronavirus restrictions on Thursday.

From January 21, a number of changes to hospitality restrictions came into place, including the removal of the rule that only six could sit at a table, and table service only.

The cap on the number of households meeting inside domestic settings was also removed from this date.

Additionally, the requirement to provide proof of exemption for face coverings has now been removed, and the reasonable excuse of ‘severe distress’ has been reintroduced.

A number of further changes will come into place at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 26, including the reopening of nightclubs. Further restrictions will be looked at when the Executive meet again on February 10.

Here are the details you need to know as nightclubs are set to reopen.

In the rest of hospitality venues, vaccine passports will not be required, but they will still be needed for entry into nightclubs.

This can include proof of vaccination or a negative lateral flow test result or evidence of a previous Covid-19 infection.

Dancing and indoor standing events can resume, and the legal requirement for Covid status certification will also continue to apply in indoor unseated or partially seated events with 500 people or more.

This includes large events such as concerts and sporting events.
