Northern Ireland midfielder Ali McCann would 'thrive at Celtic' - Stuart Millar

Ali McCann would be a big success at Celtic, according to the man who spotted the midfielder's talent as a teenager.

Former Stranraer director of football Stuart Millar believes McCann has all the attributes to stamp his mark with the Old Firm giants.

Hoops interim boss John Kennedy confirmed his club has scouted the 21-year-old St Johnstone midfielder, who this week was nominated for the PFA Scotland young Player of the year award.

Millar -who brought McCann to Stranraer on loan from the Perth side when he was just 19 - said: “I saw Ali playing for St Johnstone’s reserves and you could see how technically gifted he was. There is always the concern that younger players will be proven to be a bit lightweight and not cope with the physicality, but that wasn’t the case with Ali.

“He came to Stranraer and was a revelation from day one. He looked very mature, had quality on the ball and the physicality did not faze him.

“He has adapted to every challenge and step up so far and I have got no doubt he would handle a move to Celtic. It would be great to see him get that.

“His loan spell was successful because he was very low maintenance. There were no airs or graces and he just wanted to play football.”
