Northern Ireland goalkeeper Becky Flaherty signs new contract with Sheffield United

Northern Ireland Women's goalkeeper Becky Flaherty has signed a new contract with Sheffield United.

Flaherty started every league game in 2019/20 until a hip injury curtailed her season as the Blades finished in second behind Aston Villa.

Speaking to the club website, Flaherty said: "I'm delighted to re-sign with Sheffield United. This is the perfect place for me to develop with fantastic coaches and a great squad.

"I'm really excited to further develop my game after picking up an injury that cut short my season.

"I've been working hard in lockdown to come back a better player and next season will be an exciting time for us as we look to better our performances from last season."

Flaherty made her senior Northern Ireland debut in March 2019, starting in a 4–0 win over Kazakhstan in the Alanya Gold City Women’s Cup.

The 22-year-old was capped at youth level by Scotland before switching to Northern Ireland.

She has also had spells with Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton before making the move to Yorkshire in 2019.
