Northern Ireland footballer short-listed for Player of the Year award

Northern Ireland midfielder Rachel Furness has been nominated for the Athletic's Women's Super League Player of the Year award. 

Since her move to Liverpool Furness has been on top form for the Reds, scoring four goals.

Liverpool were bottom of the league before the coronavirus crisis suspended the league but their performances had improved following to the arrival of the former Reading midfielder.

Furness played for Tottenham Hotspur in the first half of the 2019/20 season, scoring once in her nine league games against parent club Liverpool. 

She also featured for Northern Ireland in all three Pinatar Cup matches last month and scored her 26th International goal opening the scoring in the 2-1 defeat to Scotland. 

Furness was nominated for February's PFA Fans Women's Super League award and was also up for Liverpool's player of the month at the same time.

She will go up against Chelsea trio Bethany England, Guro Reiten and Sophie Ingle, Everton's Chloe Kelly, Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema for this award. 

The winner will be announced on Sunday evening at 7pm over on the Athletic's Social media channels.
