Northern Ireland football supporters raise £32,000 for charity in 2020

Northern Ireland football fans raised over £32,000 for charity last year.

Thirty-one clubs within the Amalgamation of Official Northern Ireland Supporters Club helped hit the fantastic sum.

They supported a number of charity initiatives throughout the year including food banks and mental health groups.

Food packs and essential items were also donated to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic, with many fans volunteering to help their communities.

Some of the clubs who participated included 1st Banbridge, Greater Shankill, City of Armagh, London and First Royal Cookstown.

Amalgamation of Official Northern Ireland Supporters Club chairman Gary McAllister said: "We've always been very proud of the charitable contributions made by our clubs and by Northern Ireland fans generally.

"2020 posed many challenges for us all and it's been so positive to see how many of our clubs and their members stepped up to help in their communities.

"It's not just about the financial aspect, there's also the amount of time contributed in terms of voluntary work which you can't really put a monetary value on.

"I saw first hand some of the work that was carried out and I have to say, it was a very humbling experience."
