Northern Ireland Fire Crews attacked with stones, bottles and fireworks hurled by Halloween youths

This year's Halloween celebrations saw a 40% decrease in the number emergency calls to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

Despite this welcomed drop, fire crews were subjected to abusive behaviour on Thursday 31 October which forced them to withdraw from three separate incidents for safety reasons.

Stones, bottles and fireworks were thrown at crew members by crowds of youths.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson said: " Between 6pm 31 October and 1am 1 November, NIFRS Regional Control Centre received 77 emergency calls and Fire Crews have responded to 51 operational incidents.

"This equates to a 40% decrease for the same period 2018. 10 of these incidents were bonfire related."
