Northern Ireland Executive to meet to discuss relaxing further Covid restrictions

The NI Executive is set to meet on Monday to consider relaxing further Covid restrictions.

According to the BBC, the DUP is pushing for a plan to be agreed, with dates, to remove all restrictions.

Ministers were due to meet last Wednesday to discuss remaining rules, but it was postponed after Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill contracted the virus.

It's been reported that she will take part in Monday's meeting.

The hospitality sector is seeking for Stormont to relax rules including those surrounding table service and social distancing.

Hospitality Ulster says it continues to lobby "for the total removal of all Covid regulations at the earliest opportunity."

The public no longer has to legally socially distance outdoors in Northern Ireland, but rules are still in place to distance at least 1m in indoor settings including bars and restaurants.

This rule has already been scrapped in the UK, but people are advised to socially distance if possible.

Currently, bars and restaurants must collect all customer details for track and trace.

Nightclubs in NI must remain shut, with dancing also banned indoors in venues where music is being played.
