The Northern Ireland Assembly election is on May 5 but if you want to vote by post, there is not much time left to apply.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday April 12.
To apply, register to vote and then download an application form on the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland website.
In the application form you are asked to explain the reason why you cannot go in person to vote at your polling station.
Read the guidance notes before completing the form. You may need to have the form attested, where another person confirms that the information provided is correct.
When you are finished, return the application form to: Absent Voting Unit, Electoral Office for Northern Ireland, 15 Church Street, Belfast BT1 1ER.
You can also use the same process to apply to vote by proxy, where you appoint someone to vote on your behalf.
The Electoral Office says it can only accept original application forms, but not scanned copies.
If you registered online, you will need to provide your Digital Registration Number (DRN) on your application for a postal vote.
You will be informed of your DRN when you register online.
However, to request a further notification of your DRN, phone the Electoral Office helpline on 028 9044 6680 or complete the DRN online form on its website.
If you apply to vote by post and your application is approved, you will not be able to vote at a polling station unless you cancel your postal vote. The deadline for cancelling a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday April 12.
