Northern Ireland defender Ryan McLaughlin released by Rochdale

Northern Ireland defender Ryan McLaughlin has been released by League One side Rochdale.

The former Liverpool youth has struggled with injury and only made six substitute appearances for the club this season as Rochdale avoided the drop.

The right-back has also had spells with Blackpool and Oldham after leaving Anfield and won his Northern Ireland debut against Uruguay in 2014 before going on to make a further four appearances.

Meanwhile, former Northern Ireland youth international Callum Camps has  also departed the club after over 10 years.

Camps made over 230 professional appearances in a Dale shirt, and netted six goals for the club throughout the season before it was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He won a call-up to the under 18 squad in November 2012, having qualified for selection through his Northern Irish born grandmother.

He regularly represented the youth teams and  was called up to represent the U20's at the SuperCupNI.

A club statement read: "Due to the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and the uncertainty of when we will return to playing football in front of crowds, it has been decided by the Board of Directors in conjunction with the Manager, Brian Barry-Murphy, not to offer new contracts to the above players who have been released.

"The Club will also not be entering into contract negotiations with free agents until the future of the 2020/21 season is made clearer."
