Northern Ireland death toll rises by 13 as case numbers surge

A further 13 people have died here from coronavirus in Northern Ireland, according to latest figures released by Department of Health.

The latest fatalities brings the total number of  Covid-19  related deaths in the North to 263.

The Department say the latest deaths occurred between April 21 and 22 - Belfast Live reports.

There have also been a further 142 positive cases of the virus detected in Northern Ireland.

At present the Department say there are currently 37 ICU beds occupied by patients with confirmed or suspected Covid-19.

Republic of Ireland

It was announced on Wednesday evening that a further 49 patients have died from coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.

The death toll here now stands at 769.

While another 631 people have tested positive for Covid-19.

A total of 16,671 cases of the killer bug have now been confirmed in Ireland.
