Northern Ireland Covid roadmap: The four dates the NI Executive will review restrictions

The Stormont executive's lockdown exit strategy includes several dates on which it intends to formally review coronavirus restrictions.

While specific relaxations are not tied to indicative dates, ministers have outlined a four-week review cycle to consider whether any restrictions will be lifted.

The dates for formal reviews of the restrictions by the Executive are:

  • March 16
  • April 15
  • May 13
  • June 10

The plan brings forward by two days the first review date, which had previously been billed as March 18.

However, in its lockdown exit strategy document the Executive said it does not expect current restrictions to change significantly before Easter.

Northern Ireland's current lockdown is set to largely continue until April 1.

A phased return of some school pupils is due to begin on Monday, but no date has been given for the return of the wider school population.

The document said the return of further year groups will begin immediately after the Easter holidays "subject to the levels of community transmission".

While dates have been listed for formal reviews of restrictions, the Executive said it might also agree on changes between these dates.

Its monitoring cycle enables it to "move more rapidly on emerging priorities should the need arise before the next review point".

The strategy document said changes will be "guided by our health, scientific and policy advisers".

It added: "Our approach to further relaxations will likely focus on those activities which are of most benefit to our health and wellbeing, community and the economy and considered to result in a lower risk of increasing transmission."
