Northern Ireland council to withdraw business awards support if Dalradian Gold also a sponsor

A council’s development committee has agreed to withdraw support of an award at Mid Ulster Business Excellence Awards if Dalradian Gold is a co-sponsor.

The issue was raised at Mid Ulster District Council’s development committee meeting on September 16.

Cllr Barry Monteith said: “I would most certainly not be in favour of us being associated with any events where that particular company is associated with.

“I have no difficulty with us sponsoring the Business of The Year, it would be the perfect one for us.

“I would propose that we go ahead with that but we make it clear to JPI that is conditional and if even at the last minute, Dalradian are confirmed as a sponsor, that our officers have the authority to pull our sponsorship.”

Cllr Córa Corry said: “I would be happy to second that proposal as long as Dalradian aren’t connected to the event.”

Cllr Dan Kerr added: “I fully agree chair.”

He told us the proposal passed with no dissent from any party, adding: “I was very glad too see the proposal passed.

“Myself and Cllr Monteith have consistently argued our corporate position should be total opposition and no association with Dalradian due to the many negative aspects with the proposed goldmine application in Greencastle and will continue to support the activists on the ground in every way possible.”

JPI Media, which is hosting the awards ceremony in November, has been contacted for comment.
