Northern Ireland coronavirus announcement expected on Wednesday morning

The Northern Ireland Assembly will meet on Wednesday morning where it's expected an announcement on new coronavirus restrictions will be made.

The Executive was due to meet at around 9pm on Tuesday, with the Assembly expected to be called after.

However, the meeting was adjourned to allow parties to consider the papers put forward.

The Executive meeting is to continue into the night, with the Assembly to meet at 10.30am on Wednesday morning.

The four-week lockdown being considered by the executive is not a widespread as that imposed in March.

The PA news agency understands all hospitality outlets would close, apart from those providing takeaway services.

It is further understood retail outlets could remain open and churches services could still take place.
Gyms would also be able to stay open, but only for individual training. Other sporting activities would be limited to elite athletes.

The restrictions on household mixing are set to remain as they are. That would means no mixing of households in private dwellings, and gatherings in the gardens of private dwellings limited to six people from no more than two households.

Under the proposals, the closures of hospitality outlets would come into force on October 16. The other measures would come into effect on October 19.
