Northern Ireland cinema - films to see when they reopen

Cinemas are set to reopen in Northern Ireland in just under two weeks time (fingers and toes crossed, of course).

We know that thousands of people across Northern Ireland have missed the excitement that comes with a trip to the cinema.

With that in mind, we took a look ahead of some of the great films which will be showing whenever the Movie House, QFT, Odyssey Cinema and more open on May 24.

Here's what to look out for:

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

The follow-up to the latest adaption of a much-loved classic, Peter Rabbit 2 follows Thomas and Bea, who are now married and living with Peter and his rabbit family.

Bored of life in the garden, Peter goes to the big city, where he meets shady characters and ends up creating chaos for the whole family.

Peter Rabbit 2 is in cinemas in Northern Ireland from May 24.

Spiral

Starring Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson, Spiral is the latest instalment of the horror film franchise, Saw. Spiral sees a sadistic mastermind unleash a twisted form of justice.

Perfect for those horror fans who've been missing gore on the big screen...

In cinemas on May 24.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat brings you all the fantasy action and martial arts extravagance you'd expect from one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time.

The film has already proved hugely popular following its release in America. We expect it to be a success here as well.

In cinemas on May 24.

A Quiet Place: Part II

Following on from the tense horror of A Quiet Place, this sequel follows the Abbott family, who now face the terrors of the outside world.

Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

In cinemas from June 3.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

The lovable minions are back once again, which will no doubt come as a delight to children and families everywhere.

The Rise of Gru tells the untold story of one twelve-year-old's dream to become the world's greatest supervillain.

In cinemas from July 2.

Black Widow

Set to be another Marvel franchise box office hit, Black Widow follows Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) as she confronts her past.

The film takes place between the events of Civil War and Infinity War.

In cinemas from July 9.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

The original Space Jam, which saw Michael Jordan take part in some surreal cartoon capers, was a massive hit with audiences.

In this long-awaited sequel, NBA superstar LeBron James teams up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes. Expect hilarity and family fun.

In cinemas July 16.
