Northern Ireland basks in spring sunshine on shortest weekend of the year

Northern Ireland basked in spring sunshine on Saturday and the good news is the warm weather looks set to last for the remainder of the weekend.

As the clocks go forward later tonight, meaning this will be the shortest weekend of the year, people were out and about bright and early on Saturday morning to make the most of the sunshine.

All parts of the island were able to enjoy the good weather, with popular bathing spots like Portrush attracting hardy swimmers and surfers.

At Seapark, Holywood, some swimmers also made the most of the fine weather to take a dip.

Elsewhere, parks were busy as people enjoyed the first long stretch of good weather since the year began.

The weather is set to be warm and sunny through until Sunday before temperatures dip below freezing next week, forecasters have warned.

More spring sunshine is promised for Sunday with the Met Office predicting that temperatures will climb to 18 degrees in some places in Northern Ireland, with only a light easterly wind anticipated.

Don't forget that summer time will officially begin at 1am on Sunday, costing us an hour of sleep but bringing a step closer to more of the warmer weather and blue skies of this past week.
