Northern Ireland announce second friendly match for March

Northern Ireland will face Hungary in a friendly match at Windsor Park in March.

The game will be played at the National Football Stadium on Tuesday, March 29 (7.45pm).

It is the second of two friendly dates that month, with Ian Baraclough's side also scheduled to play Luxembourg away on March 25.

The Hungary game will evoke some good memories for the Green and White Army.

The two countries last met in the Euro 2016 qualifiers when Northern Ireland earned a key win in Budapest before Kyle Lafferty's goal claimed a late 1-1 draw in Belfast.

Those results helped pave the way for Michael O'Neill's side to qualify for France and the country's first-ever European Championship finals.

The friendly dates in March will be used as preparation for the new UEFA Nations League campaign which kicks off in June.

Hungary were promoted from League B in the second edition of the competition – from a group featuring Russia, Serbia and Turkey. In League A they will face European champions Italy, England and Germany in June and September.

Northern Ireland were relegated from League B last time out, and are the top seeds in Group 2 in League C of the 2022-23 competition and will meet Greece, Kosovo and either Estonia or Cyprus.

The Irish FA say the home friendly against Hungary will be included in the upcoming 2022-23 Campaign Card package.

Further information on single match tickets will be made available next month.
