Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland Euro playoffs set for October

The Euro playoffs featuring Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are expected to take place in early October.

UEFA will announce a series of updates on Wednesday for club and international football after its ExCo meeting.

Northern Ireland were due to face Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica back on March 26, the same time the Republic were scheduled to play Slovakia in Bratislava, with the winners due to meet in the playoff final.

Those games were postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic, with this summer's Euro finals having already been put back to the summer of 2021.

Pending confirmation from European football’s governing body, Northern Ireland are expected to finally face Bosnia in or around October 7.

Northern Ireland will also be Nations League action across September, October and November against Austria, Norway and Romania.

The Republic will also play six Nations League games in those three months against Bulgaria, Finland and Wales.

Those fixtures were published in March but UEFA will announce on Wednesday if any adjustments have to be made to the schedule.

Meanwhile it has emerged that the first three rounds of the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers could be played over one leg.

UEFA are considering whether to compensate the clubs who do not land home ties in the draw, which is scheduled for early August.
