Northern commuters facing delays after train derails in the Wigan depot

A train has derailed in the depot at Wigan causing delays to services this morning.

Commuters on Northern services are being warned trains could be delayed, cancelled or run at different times.

Passengers travelling from Wigan North Western to Manchester Victoria, Liverpool Lime Street, Stalybridge and Leeds have been affected.

Train services between Barrow-in-Furness, Manchester Airport and Blackpool North have also been delayed.

According to the National Rail website the disruption is expected to continue until 3pm this afternoon.

Passengers may be entitled to refunds depending on how long their train has been delayed for.

A tweet from the Manchester Piccadilly account said: "A derailed train is blocking trains in and out of #Wigan Springs Btanch depot.

"Delays and cancellations on services through #WiganNorthWestern station."
