Northeast And Northwest Hit By Winter Storm Systems

First winter storm of 2024 in the U.S. northeast, in Grafton

The Northeast is currently experiencing the impact of a significant storm system, bringing a mix of heavy rain, strong winds, and snow across the region. This weather event is the largest system affecting the country at the moment. The storm system in the Northeast has resulted in substantial precipitation, including rain and snow, with some areas in New York State reporting over a foot of snow, particularly in higher elevations and upstate New York.

As the storm continues to move across the region, Vermont is also experiencing robust snowfall, with several communities receiving significant snow accumulation of a foot or more. Winter weather advisories are in effect in various areas, especially downwind from the Great Lakes, and snowfall is expected to persist in higher elevations, including ski resorts in Vermont and the Appalachian Mountains.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, another storm system is developing and is forecasted to move over the Rockies in the coming days. This system is expected to bring winter-like weather conditions, with heavy snowfall indicated by areas of pink and purple on the weather map. However, despite the wintry conditions in these regions, temperatures are expected to rise in the upcoming week, leading to a warm period for many areas across the country.
