Northbound lanes have re-opened on the Pacific Motorway near Warnervale after car caught fire in the breakdown lane around 12.30pm on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.30pm, after reports a car had come alight near Sparks Road on the Pacific Motorway.

One northbound lane was closed around 12.40pm as crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW worked to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson for the RFS said crews found no one was trapped in the vehicle and the fire was extinguished, and the area made safe, by 1pm.

Traffic was heavy in both directions on the Pacific Motorway around the scene. NSW Transport Management Centre had advised drivers to allow extra time and to travel cautiously.
