North West Ambulance Service warns of long delays as they deal with 'high number of incidents'

The North West Ambulance Service has warned of delays as they deal with a 'high number of incidents'.

The service said the high pressure means that 'some people may wait longer for a response than we would like'.

People are being urged to contact their GP or the NHS 111 online service if they don't need an ambulance in an emergency.

The trust has also warned that people won't be seen any quicker if they arrive to hospital in an ambulance, unless they are in a life-threatening condition.

A tweet was posted on a official NWAS account at around 5.25pm this evening (Monday) warning of delays.

The tweet read: "We're busy dealing with a high number of incidents, so some people may wait longer for a response than we would like.

"Please only call us back if the patient's condition worsens.

"If it's not an emergency, contact your GP practice, your local pharmacy or go online to 111.nhs.uk to get the urgent help you need."

The tweet added: "PLEASE NOTE: You will not be seen any quicker at hospital if you arrive in an ambulance unless you're in a life-threatening condition."
