North West 200: Alastair Seeley sets sights on road racing 'silver anniversary'

Alastair Seeley is setting his sights on a special milestone at this week's North West 200.

The 39-year-old Carrick rider is the record holder at the international road race.

He currently has 24, one victory away from a sporting 'silver anniversary' which he hopes to celebrate in the coming days.

"Reaching 25 wins would be special. It's like a silver anniversary milestone thing, so it would be nice to get there," said Seeley, who rides in the opening Supersport race on Thursday evening.

"I have four cracks at it and hopefully I can get one anyway. That's the plan.

North West 200 Tuesday practice times as Alastair Seeley goes fastest in Supersport class

"I am riding in the Supersport and Superbike classes this year. I am skipping the Superstock as it would be too much hassle riding for three teams.

"It would mean three teams, three debriefs, three sets of leathers and all that. It would be too busy."

The omens look good for Seeley who was quickest in Tuesday's Supersport practice and third fastest in the Superbike class.

"I am riding in the two Supersport races with my EHA Racing team who I ride with in the British championship. It is a bike I am well used to," he added.

"And then the two Superbike races with the PBM Ducati which I am looking forward to.

"There is always a great buzz at the North West and every rider will be out to do well and win. It is hugely competitive but that's what make every race win special."

Final qualifying takes place on Thursday morning (roads closed 9.15am-3pm) followed by the first three evening races, with roads closed from 5pm-9pm.
