North v South All Blacks game leaves rugby world in awe amid dramatic 85th minute scenes

The 'once in a generation' match between the All Blacks' best players ended in the most thrilling fashion imaginable as the South snatched a dramatic 38-35 win over the North in the 85th minute.

There were incredible scenes as Will Jordan grabbed the stunning last-gasp score to end a match that oozed quality.

Such was the immense standard of rugby on show there are already calls to make the historic fixture part of the annual rugby calendar. As for the All Blacks selectors, they have been left with a number of headaches and could undoubtedly field at least two utterly world class teams.

It remains to be seen, though, whether the forthcoming Rugby Championship actually goes ahead after six Argentine players tested positive for Covid-19.

Nevertheless, the final play of this game was something else as Jordan gathered replacement Josh Ioane's delicate cross-kick to take the glory with his side trailing by four points deep into added time.

There were 10 tries in all, five for each team, with individuals on both sides leaving fans purring.

Rieko Ioane led the way for the North with two tries, while back rower Hoskins Sotutu continued his outstanding season.

For the South, Jordie Barrett showed his class, with Shannon Frizell, who at one stage could have played for Wales, excellent throughout.

It had seemed the North would pull off a superb comeback victory when Ash Dixon crashed over the line with eight minutes left to overturn an eight-point deficit.

Earlier in the match, rival All Blacks outside-halves Beauden Barrett and Richie Mo'unga showed touches of brilliance, with Barrett's grubber setting up the opening score for Rieko Ioane for the North.

Barrett was also going up against his brother, Jordie in the match. The teams were chosen based on which province the players first represented, not on where they first played rugby or which school they played for.

Beauden represented Taranaki and Jordie played for Canterbury.

Here's a flavour of the reaction from rugby fans around the globe.

South 38 (Tries: Will Jordan 2, Nepo Laulala, Jordie Barrett, Tyrel Lomax. Barrett 5 cons, pen)

North 35 (Tries: Rieko Ioane 2, Damian McKenzie, Aaron Smith, Ash Dixon. McKenzie 5 cons)
