North Tyneside social club temporarily closes after staff member tests positive for coronavirus

A North Tyneside social club will be closed until later this month after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Cullercoats Crescent Club announced on social media that it would be shut up to and including Friday, June 25.

A statement posted on Facebook on Wednesday said that anyone who was at the Victoria Crescent venue over the weekend will be contacted by the NHS Track and Trace team.

The club's committee wrote: "One member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19, we have contacted his close contacts which has resulted in all full time and most part time staff members requiring to self isolate for 10 days. We are therefore unable to operate.

"We have acted responsibly and have notified the NHS Trace and Trace team with all details.

"They will start the process of contacting those that were in the club during the period Saturday and Sunday 12th and 13th June 2021."

The committee also said that they wouldn't be taking "short cuts" in protecting the safety of those that drink and work at the club.

They said: "We apologise for any inconvenience but there can be no short cuts adopted. Members, guests and staff safety are our priority."

The club told ChronicleLive that it would be undergoing a deep clean before it reopens.

It added: "We are a responsible club and have deemed it appropriate to close and self isolate staff for 10 days.

"The club will be deep-cleaned before we reopen. It was a one-off incident."

North Tyneside Council said that it was aware of the issue.
