People breaking rules meant to slow the spread of coronavirus must be prepared for the consequences that follow, North Tyneside Council has warned.
The authority is working with Northumbria Police to investigate reports of illegal social gatherings.
Social distancing rules dictate people staying two metres away from other people at all times.
Under rules now enforceable by law, gatherings of more than two people not from the same household have been banned.
But the authority took to social media to reveal that it had reports of people breaking the rules.
A Tweet said: "We continue to work with our partners at Northumbria Police looking at reports of social gatherings and parties in properties around North Tyneside. These households can expect a call from us to cease or be subject to a closure order."
A closure notice prohibits access to the premises for a specified period, or it specifically excludes others.
The authority said it is not an eviction but breach of a closure order could lead to eviction proceedings.
However, the courts are closed so at this stage the council would not be able to apply for an eviction.
Government rules also say residents should only be leaving their homes for work, essential shopping and solitary exercise no more than once a day.
