North Somerset pub The Black Horse doubles up as general election polling station

A pub in North Somerset is doubling up as a polling station for the general election this Thursday.

The Black Horse, at Clapton in Gordano, will be open from 7am for punters to cast their votes in between a drink or two.

Pub supervisor Saith Wright joked that she had tried to ban regulars from talking about the election because it was dominating so many conversations at the 14th-century tavern.

She said: “They say never talk about politics, religion or money.

“Customers do chat about politics a fair amount, especially at the moment.

“But if I hear them, I ask them to stop because we hear so much of it.”

The Gordano Valley pub is in the North Somerset constituency which has been held since its creation in 2010 by Conservative Liam Fox, who was previously MP for its predecessor Woodspring since 1992.

The other candidates standing this time are Labour ‘s Hannah Young, Liberal Democrat Ashley Cartman and the Green Party’s Phil Neve.
