North Somerset Council claim there are no coronavirus cases in the area

Public Health England (PHE) figures showing a coronavirus case in North Somerset have been disputed by the district's council.

It was reported yesterday by Bristol Live that there was a coronavirus case in North Somerset.

But North Somerset Council has since disputed the figure, saying there were no cases in the district.

A spokesman told Bristol Live the figure was incorrect.

In response, PHE said the data was 'subject to change' and was not always based on the patient's residential postcode.

A spokesman said: "Data may be subject to delays in case confirmation and reporting, as well as ongoing data cleaning."

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?

Symptoms include fever and cough that can progress to severe pneumonia. This can cause shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

The virus causes more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease.
