North Shore Coffee Co to open first cafe on Heaton's Chillingham Road

Newcastle's popular North Shore Coffee Co. is set to open its first sit-in cafe this spring.

Owners Toby Davison and Dave Grieves have taken over the former Brew and Bite unit on Heaton's Chillingham Road and plan to turn it into a coffee shop called 'Neighbourhood Heaton.'

With room to sit around 30 people over two floors, the new premises will serve sweet treats from their in-house bakery as well as a menu of savory dishes including toasties and soups. And customers can expect to enjoy the full range of hot drinks from North Shore Coffee Co. at the cafe which has been given a different name in an effort to integrate the business into the community.

"We just wanted to give the place its own identity," Toby said.

"We want people to know it's by us - and they will see that because the branding will be similar to ours - but we just wanted to build a real community-focused coffee shop with being in the middle of a residential area in Heaton.

"We have had loads of good feedback so hopefully it will work out really well."

Work is currently underway to transform the venue, which will also feature a large outdoor seating area, with the aim of opening at the end of April or early May.

It will be a milestone moment for North Shore Coffee Co. which started 10 years ago with a stall at the Quayside's Sunday market. During the pandemic, Toby, 30, and Dave, 24, launched a coffee van in Gosforth and saw the popularity of the business soar.

Since then they have opened a site at Newcastle's Grainger Market and continue to run their mobile coffee van at different events across the North East.

On the Heaton coffee shop, Toby said: "I'm really excited. It is our first site where we are serving coffee in porcelain cups and having people sit down because everything has been takeaway or grab-and-go.

"Heaton is a really good area and we have always been really keen to have a spot there but we were just waiting for the right one to come up."

Once open, Neighborhood Heaton will be serving customers seven days a week from 7.30am to 4.30pm. It is currently looking to hire staff and anyone interested should send a CV to neighbourhoodheaton@northshorecoffee.co.uk
