North Shields man arrested in Claudia Lawrence case is released without charge

A man arrested in Tyneside on suspicion of murdering chef Claudia Lawrence has been released from bail without charge, police said.

The man was arrested in May at a house in North Shields. His home in York was also cordoned off, boarded up and subjected to a forensic search.

A 46-year-old man arrested separately in July, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, remains on police bail.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Significant enquiries continue to be made into the circumstances surrounding Claudia’s disappearance in March 2009 and there remains the possibility that further arrests in this case will be made.”

Miss Lawrence went missing in York in March 2009 after leaving work. Extensive police enquiries have been carried out.
