North Shields DJ Schak to play inside St James' Park ahead of Newcastle United's cup semi-final

A DJ who promoted his debut single by spinning decks on public transport and inside a local DIY store is set to play at St James' Park ahead of Newcastle United's cup semi-final.

Shakeil Luciano, known as Schak, released his first song Moving All Around (Jumpin') [feat. Kim English] last year after being signed by DJ Patrick Topping's label Trick. The tune has been played on radio stations and in clubs across the country.

The 30-year-old, from North Shields, North Tyneside, has now been asked by the owners of the club to play ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Southampton on Tuesday night.

Schak will play a special DJ set in the Gallowgate East Corner between 7.30pm and 7.40pm.

Schak said: "Being asked to perform at St James' Park is a childhood dream come true. It's just an honour to be able to do something like this. I feel so privileged.

"I'm the first person to do something like this from an electronic music perspective. I don't know any other DJs to have played in there, it's crazy.

"There's no words in the English language to begin to describe what it feels like to play in your football team's stadium in front of so many people. I'm just really, really excited.

"We have got the best fans in the league, the best owners in the league and we're soon going to have the best team in the league.

"I just want to say a massive thank you to the owners. I have never, in my life, in any sport, seen the owners at this level of competition be this involved with their fans. They get it and they want to be part of it.

"There's no divide, we're one club. That's what makes us the greatest club. The community is just unbelievable."

Schak said one of the club's co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi reached out to him about playing inside the stadium, after spotting a video of him playing a spontaneous set outside the ground.

The raising star said: "We went back and forward and decided to do the semi-final because it's the biggest game we have had for 20 years.

"This is the biggest week of my life to date because I have got this to do. I thrive off stuff like this, it's what I'm built to do. I'm in my perfect environment so I love it.

"I have got four to five tunes which I'm going to play in 10 minutes. It's all theme related!"

Schak previously hit the headlines after creating short videos to promote Moving All Around. They showed people raving to the track while on a double decker bus, the Metro, the Shields Ferry and inside a showroom kitchen at B&Q in North Shields.

He also played at St. James' Metro Station following the Magpies' Premier League victory over Chelsea in November. Schak's video caught the attention of Mehrdad, who shared it on Twitter and joked: "Can't believe I missed this an invite would be appreciated next time #NUFC"

Schak, who is due to release a mini mix on Danny Howard's BBC Radio 1 show on Friday, added: "There is no place in the world like Newcastle. Our club is the heart and soul of the city and being part of it is truly an honour."

The club is encouraging all supporters to arrive as early as possible. A special 'buy one get one free' offer on hot and cold drinks will be available on concourses between 6:30pm and 7pm.

Moving All Around (Jumpin’) ft. Kim English hit no.1 on the Soundcloud Chart and Spotify Viral Top 50. It also entered the Official UK Chart, scored the B List on BBC Radio 1 whilst amassing over 10M collective streams and counting.
