North Shields brute broke girlfriend's eye socket and ankle by kicking her as she lay on floor

A violent thug ended his birthday behind bars after he brutally attacked his girlfriend.

Corey Hall left his partner with a broken eye socket and ankle by repeatedly kicking her as she lay on the floor.

A court heard that the 23-year-old launched the savage assault, which was caught on doorbell CCTV, at a property in North Shields.

The victim was taken to hospital, where she required treatment for her injuries.

Hall, of Borough Road, in North Shields, was arrested soon after on March 22 this week, his birthday, and was charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

He appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court in custody on March 24 to plead guilty to the charge.

James Long, prosecuting, said the assault involved Hall kicking his partner and should be sent to the crown court.

"The main evidence comes from a camera attached to a doorbell," Mr Long continued.

"The Crown would say this matter is out of this court's powers of sentence. This is a serious assault."

Adam Scott, defending, said: "The defendant would prefer to attend the crown court on bail. He has his own address in North Shields. His partner, the victim, lives in the West End of Newcastle.

"There's some distance between them. It looks as though she has come to see him on his birthday. They have both had a lot to drink and that's why this happened in the North Shields area.

"It's a matter for you as to whether he can be trusted on bail. He's got no convictions since 2016 but his record is poor before that."

The court heard that Hall was on police bail at the time of the attack, which banned him from contacting the victim.

Committing the case to Newcastle Crown Court for sentence, District Judge Paul Currer said: "This involves a broken eye socket and fractured ankle, so it's very unpleasant."

The judge added: "You will be remanded in custody until your appearance at the crown court on April 21. You are charged with a serious offence.

"Any time you serve now will count towards any sentence. If the judge who sentences you thinks you shouldn't go to prison, this will be taken into account.

"I will order the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Hopefully, there will be no delay and you will be dealt with on April 21."
