North Sea oil producer Ithaca Energy lifted by renewed takeover talk

Ithaca Energy, the North Sea oil explorer, recently called off bid talks after none of the potential purchasers matched its asking price.

But traders are now saying it could be back in the takeover spotlight, especially in the wake of Cairn Energy's announcement a week ago it was buying another North Sea specialist Nautical Petroleum, its second purchase in the region.

Speculation that Cairn itself, Dana Petroleum purchaser Korea National Oil Corporation or Soco International could now be interested has pushed Ithaca shares up 4p to 115.5p.
