North Sea logistics firm ASCO takes full control of radioactive waste specialist Norm Solutions

Aberdeen-based ASCO has taken full ownership of oilfield radioactive clear-up specialist Norm Solutions.

Norm, which is also based in Aberdeen, was set up in 2012 as a joint venture between materials and logistics firm ASCO and John Lawrie Group.

ASCO has now bought out its partner in a deal which it said strengthens its specialist waste and decommissioning capabilities.

Norm Solutions will continue to operate from its facility in Aberdeen where it handle all types of equipment and waste streams contaminated by naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM).

Such materials are present in the earth's crust and are brought to the surface through activities such as oil and gas exploration or mining.

ASCO head of waste and decommissioning Chris Lloyd said: "As the decommissioning sector continues to grow, our ability to provide safe NORM treatment and disposal services will remain critical to our overall service offering to our client base.

“We have enjoyed a positive working relationship with John Lawrie Group over the last eight years and we will continue to work with them as a trusted partner.

John Davidson will remain as general manager for Norm Solutions following the deal.

ASCO, which is owned by DH Equity Partners and its management team, operates from over 70 locations worldwide and employs around 1,500 people.
