North Sea firm commits to drilling campaign to target up to 500 million barrels

North Sea operator Azinor Catalyst has committed to drilling two new North Sea wells in 2020 after sealing farm-out agreements.

Azinor has told the Oil and Gas Authority it will drill the Boaz and Hinson wells after signing a letter of intent with Maersk Drilling for work and securing farm-out agreements with global oil explorer Seapulse. It said negotiations over a farm-out agreement on a third North Sea well, Goose, are progressing.

The three independent prospects are estimated to contain combined prospective resources of 495 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Nick Terrell, managing director of Azinor Catalyst, said he was “delighted to commit to drilling these high-value North Sea exploration opportunities”.

“What is particularly pleasing, is that not only will we benefit from bringing Seapulse into the partnership, but we will be partnering with Maersk Drilling under the Seapulse - Maersk Drilling Alliance, which will bring additional operational efficiencies during our back-to-back three-well drilling campaign."

Boaz is in close proximity to Equinor's operated Eirin gas and condensate field and Hinson is adjacent to numerous fields and established infrastructure, including the Gannet complex, Christian, Bligh and Selkirk discoveries.
