North Manchester shooting: Two people seriously hurt after gunman opens fire in the street

Two men have been seriously hurt in a shooting in north Manchester.

Armed police were scrambled to Cheetham Hill following reports of a 'firearms discharge', GMP said.

The men were taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a gunman opened fire at around 2.30pm.

Their ages have not been released.

Police have not revealed any other information about the incident.

Forensic teams were seen searching sections of Copthall Lane, Rachel Rosing Walk and Dunkerleys Close.

Closures were in place on Woodlands Road and Cheetham Hill Road, between Crescent Road and Heath Street.

Pictures and video from the scene showed officers in white overalls trawling the streets for clues.  

Takeaways and shops line Cheetham Hill Road.

The shooting is believed to have happened as scores of people looked on.

The full Greater Manchester Police statement read: "At around 2.30pm on Friday, police were called to a report of a firearms discharge in Cheetham Hill.

"Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Scenes remain in place on Copthall Lane, Rachel Rosing Walk and Dunkerleys Close.

"Road closures are in place on Woodlands Road and Cheetham Hill Road between Crescent Road and Heath Street."
