Over 1,300 pupils have been given a week off after a school in north Leeds was forced to close when part of the roof was badly damaged by high winds.
Benton Park School, in Rawdon, Leeds, announced that it would be closed on Monday, February 3 due to problems with the roof, which could pose a risk to staff and pupils.
The following day, the secondary school in Rawdon announced it will be shut until Monday, February 10 at the earliest, while they try and repair the roof.
Contractors are on standby but cannot get to the roof until strong winds die down.
They could be waiting until next week, as the Met Office has issued a weather warning, because it expects Leeds to be hit by winds of up to 60mph over the weekend.
In February 2019, Leeds City Council approved a £25 million project to rebuild Benton Park School, because of the poor condition of some of the school buildings.
The work is due to begin later this year, once planning permission has been approved.
Phil Mellen, the council's deputy director of learning said: “The roof of the main building at Benton Park School has been badly damaged by high winds over the weekend.
“Contractors are on standby to assess the damage caused but are unable to access the roof until the wind drops to a safe level.
“The school will remain closed until this assessment has taken place and we are satisfied that the building is safe for students and staff.
“We are working closely with the school to ensure that disruption for learners is kept to a minimum.”
