North Lanarkshire Schools pipe band crowned World Champions at Glasgow Green

North Lanarkshire Schools Novice A Pipe Band were crowned world champions at Glasgow Green – adding to their British and European titles.

The drummers took the drumming prize and also scooped the prestigious champions of champions prize.

The Novice B finished third in a field of 21 bands – an achievement made even more incredible as it was many of the youngsters’ first appearance at the world championships.

Pipe Major Ross Cowan commented: “We are all very proud to win this.

“The support the band has had from the people of North Lanarkshire has been incredible and we cannot thank everyone enough.

“It really is the icing on the cake for our young people this year.

“We’ve already marched down Sixth Avenue in New York and to now march away with a world championship really is the stuff dreams are made of.”

Fifty-two pipers and drummers from secondary schools across North Lanarkshire took part in the New York parade along the city’s Sixth Avenue earlier this year in front of a 30,000-strong crowd.
