North Lanarkshire nursery applications deadline approaches

Monklands families applying for nursery places in the next academic year have until February 12 to submit their requests for early learning and childcare placements.

North Lanarkshire Council will provide 1140 hours of free nursery placement to all three- to five-year-olds, as well as some eligible children aged two.

Youngsters who will be three between March 1 and August 12 can begin their placement from this August, while all others who reach that age before February 28 next year can then start nursery the day after their birthday.

Council officials say: “Children will normally attend an early-learning establishment closest to their home, but parents and carers can apply to any establishment depending on their needs.

“Applications should be returned to the first-choice provider; families of children applying to North Lanarkshire from another local authority should be guided by the cross-boundary protocol.

“The focus is on flexibility for families, as well as an emphasis on quality, and a strong connection with outdoor learning and learning through play.”

North Lanarkshire officials add: “While the council cannot guarantee parents/guardians their first choice of provider, late applications after February 12 reduce the potential of securing their choice of setting.”
