North Lanarkshire councillor calls on local authority to root out Motherwell weed problem in Motherwell

A North Lanarkshire councillor has called on the local authority to sort out the large-scale weed problem in the Knowetop area of Motherwell.

The weeds are present from Knowetop Avenue’s junction with Manse Road, across to the pavement outside the local primary school and at the metal barriers on the footway across from Tim Horton's drive-thru, towards Windmillhill Street.

Environmental officials have notified Councillor Nathan Wilson that Knowetop has now been logged for action but that the council is currently behind in its programme for the treatment of weeds in North Lanarkshire.

This problem has been attributed to supplier delays with quadbikes, as these are needed to conduct spraying of weeds on kerb edges.

Councillor Wilson said: “Weeds of all sizes are just about everywhere in the Knowetop area and are a complete eyesore.

“The pavement at Knowetop Primary is horrendous and weeds are present all along the lengthy boundary wall that separates the school grounds from the public footway.

“Constituents have raised concerns direct with me about the issue and it is clear that the weeds are detracting significantly from the area.

“The problem is only going to get worse until concerted action on the ground is taken by the council to tackle the issue.

“It is important that the council arrange to have the problem with the weeds addressed at the earliest possibility opportunity and as soon as possible after the supplier delay issues are resolved.”
