North Lanarkshire Council pledge to find Clyde and Cumbernauld Colts 'alternative arrangements' amid Broadwood shut down

North Lanarkshire Council have vowed to work with Clyde and Cumbernauld Colts on a back-up plan for Broadwood Stadium.

Both The Bully Wee and the Lowland League outfit rent the ground from North Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, but the stadium is one of the council-run facilities that was closed last week as a response to the coronavirus outbreak.

With the League One and Lowland League season on hold as well at training at the Lanarkshire clubs, the council yesterday said the stadium “will remain closed for the foreseeable future" alongside the rest of their facilities.

With fears over Broadwood opening in time for the restart of the football season and as well as potential fixture clashes with UEFA expecting the season to be completed by June 30, North Lanarkshire Council have moved to limit concerns over the remainder of the season.

They state they will monitor the situation while taking guidance from governing bodies but will work on alternatives with the clubs if they are required during the unprecedented COVID-19 closure.

A spokesperson said: “In line with government guidance on social reducing social contact all culture and leisure facilities have been closed, including Broadwood Stadium.

“Over the coming weeks will work with all our service users to see what, if any, alternative arrangements can be made.

“These are extremely challenging times and the situation is changing rapidly.

“We appreciate the support and co-operation from communities across North Lanarkshire.”
