North Lanarkshire Council closes all recycling centres due to coronavirus

North Lanarkshire Council has announced the closure of all recycling centres due to coronavirus.

The centres, including those in Netherton and Shotts, closed their doors at 1pm today due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

A statement on the council’s website said: “As a result of the coronavirus restrictions, all our Household Waste Recycling Centres have closed with immediate effect (Tuesday 24 March).

“In addition, our trade waste and special uplift services have been cancelled.

“Any residents who have booked a special uplift from this date will be contacted directly by our customer contact centre and a refund will be provided. Please do not phone the contact centre, as lines are extremely busy.”

Vehicle access and car parking was closed at Strathclyde Country Park earlier this morning. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained.

A total of 75 people now having tested positive for the virus in Lanarkshire- a rise from Monday’s figure of 58.
