North Lanarkshire Council appoints new committee conveners

North Lanarkshire Council has appointed its committee conveners for the new term.

At its meeting on Thursday, the council appointed conveners who are responsible for particular areas of policy, and also amended some of its committees to better reflect its priorities.

These appointments follow those of councillors Jordan Linden (leader), Tracy Carragher (depute leader), Agnes Magowan (provost) and Anne Thomas (depute provost) in May.

Council leader Jordan Linden said: “The conveners appointed at council form an outstanding team who will focus relentlessly on the people and communities of North Lanarkshire.

“The changes to committees signify that positive change.

“For example, Adult Social Work, Care and Wellbeing stresses our commitment to the wellbeing of residents every single day, and Enterprise, Growth and Fair Work represents our belief that sustainable and inclusive economic growth, so vital to the prospects of North Lanarkshire, can only be achieved through progressive and fair employment.

“I’m proud to lead an administration which is absolutely committed to ensuring North Lanarkshire is the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit.

“With this team of excellent conveners in place I am confident we can work with people across North Lanarkshire to put in place a policy agenda which represents positive change for all.”

The new conveners are as follows: Adult Social Work, Care and Wellbeing, Councillor Gerry Brennan; Appointments Sub-Committee, Councillor Jordan Linden; Audit and Scrutiny Panel Councillor Denis Johnston; Education, Children and Families, Councillor Kirsten Larson; Education Employee Appeals Sub-Committee, Councillor Ann Ballinger; Employee Appeals Sub-Committee, Councillor Lesley Jarvie; Enterprise, Growth and Fair Work, Councillor Paul di Mascio; Environment and Place, Councillor Alan Masterton; Finance and Resources, Councillor Jim Hume; Housing, Councillor Allan Stubbs; Joint Negotiating Committee for Teaching Staff, Councillor Kirsten Larson; Joint Consultative Committee, Councillor Lesley Jarvie; Licensing Board, Councillor Sophia Coyle; People and Communities, Councillor Danish Ashraf; Petitions Sub-Committee, Councillor Barry McCluskey; Planning & Planning Hearings, Councillor David Robb; Local Review Body, Councillor Cameron McManus; Policy and Strategy, Councillor Jordan Linden; Regulatory Committee, Councillor Margaret Hughes.
