North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un met families of soldiers who died fighting for Russia in its war against Ukraine on Friday, August 29.
After months of silence, Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed in April that North Korea sent troops to fight for Russia.
The two countries have not publicly disclosed the scale of the deployment or casualties suffered by North Korean troops.
According to the British Ministry of Defence, more than 6,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or injured while fighting alongside Russia’s forces in Ukraine.
