North Greenwich station evacuated after suspicious package 'found on train near The O2'

North Greenwich station has been closed due to a security alert after a suspicious package was found on a train near The O2.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police told The Independent they were called to the station at 11.07am and said specialist officers are examining the "item".

Metropolitan Police officers are assisting the British Transport Police, a spokesman said.

The police cordon around the station has since been moved further back.

Jubilee Line trains are being held, causing delays on the line.

There is no service between Canary Wharf and Stratford. Commuters have been asked to avoid the area.

The O2 has not been evacuated, but those waiting to climb the dome have been told their climbs will be rescheduled.
