North Glasgow locals invited to decide artwork at new £12m Forth & Clyde Canal bridge

Locals in north Glasgow are being asked what kind of artwork they want to see on the site of a new landmark canal bridge that is under construction in the area.

The £12million Stockingfield Bridge at the Forth & Clyde Canal will link the communities of Maryhill, Gilshochill and Ruchill in the city for the first time since the waterway opened back in 1790.

The new crossing will also allow people to cross over the canal rather than having to negotiate the existing Lochburn Road footways under the canal aqueduct - and includes a viewing platform and 100ft spire illuminated by a state-of-the-art lighting system.

New seating areas and footpaths will be installed to coincide with the construction of the bridge.

The artworks will be located in and around the bridge to help celebrate the new bridge and the linking up of the communities - and Scottish Canals wants to know what kind of artwork should be made to do so.

Once these questions have been answered a brief for the artwork will be created and bids will be invited to make the art at the bridge based on the brief.

Locals can have their say by filling out a questionnaire on the Scottish Canals website HERE
