Assam agriculture minister Atul Bora, who was the chief guest, requested Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, who was present at the function, to take up the matter of declaring tea as the country’s national drink. Bora and Tasa jointly released a logo of NETA’s 40 Glorious Years.Tasa stated that after two years, the Assam tea industry will celebrate 200 years and appealed to all stakeholders to bring back the glory of Assam tea, emphasising on quality tea as the mantra.

He highlighted that Covid-19 could not cause havoc among the workers of tea gardens because of health benefits and immunity boosting properties of Assam Tea, which is largely consumed by them several times a day. The association was established on June 9, 1981 with 11 tea estates and now has grown to a strong force with 163 member tea companies across region with collective annual production of 102 million kgs of tea.
