North East weather warning: Hour by hour forecast as Storm Darcy arrives

Most of England and Scotland are still covered by snow and ice warnings as the new week begins amid the nation’s ongoing cold snap.

Many parts of the country will feel the full effects of Storm Darcy on Monday with temperatures in some areas set to drop as low as -13C.

The Met Office has extended the North East's yellow warning until Wednesday.

The yellow warning for snow will now be in place from midnight on Monday until the end of Wednesday as travel disruption and delays are expected.

The warning states: " Snow showers will feed off the North Sea into many northern and eastern areas of the UK. Whilst some areas in the warning area will remain largely dry, some persistent bands of showers are likely to develop in places.

"Daily accumulations of 2-5 cm are probable for some, with 10-15 cm plausible in areas where showers merge into more organised and prolonged spells of snow."

On Sunday, blizzard conditions could be seen across Northumberland which was covered in a blanket of snow.
